Lisa Armstrong is an award-winning journalist with credits in several publications, including The Washington Post, National Geographic, Parade, Ms., Essence, Redbook, USA Weekend and O, The Oprah Magazine. She is an adjunct professor at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and has also taught at NYU.

Ms. Armstrong grew up in Nairobi, Kenya and Kingston, Jamaica and, in the past few years, has traveled to several countries in Africa, as well as India and Tajikistan, writing stories mostly about humanitarian issues. She recently won an award from the American Society of Journalists and Authors for an article about a Kenyan village formed by women who were allegedly raped by British soldiers, and also wrote a story for the December 2009 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine about Lovetta Conto, a 17-year-old Liberian refugee who is now designing jewelry made from spent bullets from her country’s civil war.

In addition to an M.A. in journalism, Ms. Armstrong has a master’s degree in urban planning with a concentration in international development and has written and edited for the World Bank, UNICEF and other organizations.
