Wong Maye-E is a staff photographer and editor on The Associated Press’ global enterprise team, focusing on editing her colleagues' photo projects but also shooting her own. Known for her ability to capture subjects with compassion and grace, her work has included portrait series on Rohingya women who were raped by Myanmar’s security forces, as well as another project exploring healing and faith among Catholic clergy sex abuse survivors. Joining the AP in 2003 from The Straits Times in Singapore, she has covered news and everyday life in North Korea as the news cooperative’s lead photographer in the reclusive country; major news events such as political protests in Thailand and Hong Kong; the devastation and anguish in the aftermath of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines; and a garment factory collapse in Bangladesh. She’s also documented major sporting events, including the Olympics in 2014 and 2016, and the 2014 World Cup.
