Micah Castelo is a master’s student and newspaper fellow in the Magazine, Newspaper and Online Journalism program at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. As a fellow, she writes enterprise stories and produces videos for Syracuse.com/The Post-Standard. Recently, she co-founded Rooted, a digital magazine on modern homesteading. She previously interned at Baltimore and Baltimore Style magazines and has a bachelor’s degree in English and communication arts from Notre Dame of Maryland University.
Castelo moved to the U.S. when she was eight years old, but she still speaks fluent Tagalog and holds on tightly to her Filipino culture. She’s passionate about writing stories on environmental issues, food policies and social justice. In her spare time, she enjoys learning how to cook and playing with her three guinea pigs.
