Mvemba Phezo Dizolele

Mvemba Phezo Dizolele has worked as the United Press International Africa Columnist and as a policy analyst at the Center for Global Development; he has also been a William C. and Barbara H. Edwards Media Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. A native of Congo, Dizolele was abducted by the Mobutu regime’s intelligence service in 1988 and held in political detention for 22 days. He is currently working on a biography of the late dictator, Mobutu: the Rise and Fall of the Leopard King. His analyses have been published in the New York Times, International Herald Tribune, and Washington Times. He has appeared on BBC's World Update, NPR's On Point, PBS' Foreign Exchange with Fareed Zakaria and This is America, and VOA's Washington Forum and Straight Talk Africa . Dizolele holds a Master of Business Administration in Economics, Strategy and International Business and a Master of Public Policy in International Development from the University of Chicago. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for six years. Dizolele speaks English, French, Norwegian, Spanish, Swahili, Kikongo and Lingala, and is proficient in Swedish and Danish.
