Nadja Drost

Nadja Drost is a journalist based in New York City after a decade based in Bogotá, Colombia. She works in print, radio, and television, and regularly reports from Latin America as a special correspondent for PBS NewsHour. She is the 2017 recipient of the Overseas Press Club of America’s award for Best Reporting on Latin America for her NewsHour reporting on FARC guerrillas in Colombia.

Stories she has reported and produced have aired on CBC Radio, the BBC, and Radio Ambulante, and published in The California Sunday Magazine, Maclean’s magazine, TIME, Al Jazeera America, and others. Her narrative investigation into gold mining and Colombia’s armed conflict, The Devil Underground, was published by The Atavist, and is available as a Kindle single.

She also makes documentary films — she directed the 2005 award-winning documentary Between Midnight and the Rooster’s Crow, and is currently independently producing a documentary film about a female FARC commander reinventing her life as a civilian after putting down arms. Drost is a graduate of Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism.
