Nicole Anderson Cobb, PhD, is a researcher, educator, activist, journalist, award-winning playwright and community volunteer. She grew up on Chicago’s Southeast Side in the Calumet Heights community.

Dr. Anderson-Cobb earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a Master’s degree in History, and Doctorate of Philosophy in History from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  

As a university professor, Dr. Anderson Cobb taught Africana Studies and Film/Media Studies at Occidental College (CA), Augustana College (IL), Jacksonville University (FL) and Roosevelt University (IL) and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign from 2004-2010 and 2013-2015. 

Dr. Anderson Cobb’s plays “Black Reign” (2010), “Still Waters”( 2011), “Tangled” (2012), “Campus Jihad”( 2015), GunPlay(s) Theatre Competition have garnered awards and attention from local, regional and national media outlets. 

In 2016-2017, Dr. Anderson Cobb was selected for a Specialized Journalism Fellowship, earned a Second Master’s of Science Degree in Journalism and pursued journalism training, investigative journalism and written/audio-visual story development.

Since late 2017, Dr. Anderson Cobb has served as a Staff Writer for Smile Politely magazine writing op-eds, interviews and investigative journalism articles focused on race relations & governance, gun violence, economic disparities.

She also created and launched the “When Faith Speaks” in 2019 to explore the intersections to examine how faith communities are weathering our intense political climate.

Dr. Anderson Cobb is a wife and mother of a daughter. Additionally, she has served several civic organizations and volunteers with her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; her daughter’s PTA; and provides troop support for her local Girl Scout troop and community discussion moderator. 

In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, dancing, visiting museums and cultural attractions and spending time with family and extended family.
