Sofie Isenberg is a graduate student in Journalism at Boston University’s College of Communication, where she is a 2020 Fellow at WBUR, Boston’s NPR station. Before moving to Boston, she worked for several years at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, where her work focused on the causes and solutions to various forms of social inequality.

Sofie has been thinking critically about human cognition and culture for most of her life. She holds a Master’s degree in the Anthropology of Learning and Cognition from the London School of Economics, where she wrote a prize-winning thesis on the empathetic processes that shape human cooperation and communication. As an undergraduate at UC Berkeley, she studied literature, religions and folklore: the stories people tell to make sense of the world.

The stories Sofie wants to tell emphasize plasticity as a defining characteristic of the human experience. They are stories about how we change, how our ability to evolve through culture as well as biology is at the core of who we are as a species.
