Stephanie Strasburg is a visual journalist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette with a particular interest in the decline of manufacturing and industry in Rust Belt America and its effects on culture, politics, economy, health, and the physical environment.

As a student of Goddard College and the School for International Training’s immersive approach to education and documentation, she traveled from the quiet villages of the Carpathian Mountains to the grand ceremony of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Cuba to work and hone her craft.

Turning to her own (new) backyard, Strasburg’s work earned her honors from her peers such as the NPPA’s Photographer of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Region, and awards from the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, National Association of Black Journalists, Best of Photojournalism, Northern Short Course, Clarion Awards, and American Society of News Editors, among others.

She was selected as one of 100 students worldwide for the Eddie Adams Workshop XXVI and has worked on stories for national outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Reuters, and Science magazine.

Strasburg’s long term projects include a look at Pennsylvania’s Financially Distressed Municipalities Act and its effects on third class cities in the state, the circumstances and people leading to Donald Trump's political support in middle America, and the cultural importance and financial sacrifice made for the Friday night lights of high school football at schools struggling to make ends meet.
