Tom Clement graduated from Guilford College in 2014 majoring in economics and film studies. Clement was photo editor for the Guilford College newspaper, The Guilfordian, in 2012 and then became the chief videographer of The Guilfordian video department for the following three semesters.

Growing up attending public school in “progressive” Takoma Park, Maryland, Clement grew critical of the glaring racial inequities of his largely segregated classes. In college, as he studied the actors and methods of perpetuating social inequity, Clement joined fellow student, Sol Weiner, who had been working with The Rural Empowerment Association for Community Help (R.E.A.C.H.), to propose the pair collaborate with R.E.A.C.H. to produce a media tool for the purpose of spreading awareness about the negative human health, and environmental impacts of the hog industry in Eastern North Carolina. The product is a 25-minute documentary, Swine Country—the fight for clean air and water in Duplin County, outlining the environmental racism and degradation of the hog industry in North Carolina from 2013—present.

Informed by his experience, Clement focuses on stories which humanize powerless populations facing corporate and governmental exploitation and neglect.
