In Bengal, Women Use Mobile Phones to Maintain Land Records

This reporting project looks at the use of technology, particularly cell phones, that has been helping rural women learn about their land rights. The story was based in the New Alipurduar district of Bengal. It focused mainly on widows and elderly women who risked being deprived of their lands after the death of their husbands. Training is provided by administrative officials along with Landesa, a non-profit working for land rights in Bengal, to help them to secure the ownership of their lands. The training has helped women check the ownership status of their land through the use of cell phones.
