Crisis of Survival: African Immigrants in France

Rodrigue Ossebi, a student fellow at LaGuardia Community College in New York, reports on the experience of the sub-Saharan African community in France—the discrimination recent immigrants face, their lack of acceptance, and their struggle to become educated and full members of society.

Today many of the central and west Africans who live in France have little access to financial aid, housing, or decent education, and more than 40 percent of them do not have jobs—they have difficulties integrating into society and live in precarious conditions. Yet given the right opportunities, some do succeed.
