FGM is mostly targeted toward girls under the age of 15 and has been considered a violation of human rights. In 2011, Kenya passed a law making it illegal to practice FGM. FGM is deeply rooted in some parts of Kenyan cultures, and critics say the law is not enough. More education is needed to help stop the practice.
