Korporasi Api (The Fire Corporation)

A collaborative team of journalists from Tempo, Betahita, Mongabay, and Malaysiakini will trace the concessions of forest product industries and oil palm plantations in areas that were on fire in 2019. Following satellite images, the team will investigate what happened before and after widespread fire in these forest landscapes. They will examine South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan—the three provinces with the largest burning area—to confirm the alleged involvement of big corporations in the disaster that cost Indonesia tens of trillions of rupiah. Strengthened by direct reporting from the scene with the support of the Rainforest Journalism Fund in collaboration with the Pulitzer Center, they will help shed light on which companies were responsible for the forest fires.
