The Next Super Virus

COVID-19, Ebola, avian flu, the bubonic plague. The spread of zoonotic diseases such as these is accompanied by an air of fear and mystery; but the mystery is shrinking. Studies have shown human populations experiencing repeated contact with wildlife and natural habitats as a proven formula for virus spillover. With a global health system stretched thin, the next pandemic could be unthinkably close.

Deforestation and the unbridled exploitation of natural resources in the massively biodiverse Democratic Republic of Congo could leave humanity further exposed to the next super virus.
