Some patterns have emerged. Large metropolitan centers such as Los Angeles and San Francisco appear to be the hardest hit. Men more than women are likely to die from COVID-19, and the elderly fare the worst. More than 3,000 people have died in California. The Los Angeles Times is presenting as many of their stories as possible, to memorialize the dead and to develop a database that will allow the newspaper to better understand the pandemic.
