Donate NowEliminating TB in Papua New Guinea is a major challenge, in part because bringing healthcare to remote communities is so difficult: roads are often impassible, and waterways dangerous. Health care providers are looking at innovative ways to deliver healthcare, including by using long-distance drones to deliver medicine.
Like other countries that are impacted by TB, the debilitating disease is compounded by the prevalence of HIV. Nearly one in four patients with tuberculosis in Papua New Guinea is also HIV positive. Every year, 30,000 people are infected, and multi-drug resistant TB is on the rise.
Papua New Guinea is also ranked one of the worst places in the world to be a woman, with high rates of gender-based violence and maternal mortality. This project will also examine how women have in particular been impacted by the TB epidemic.
