In January 2018, Ethiopia set a ban on all foreign adoption. This new law has affected the 4.6 million children who are living as orphans in the country. Though foreign adoption is banned, Ethiopian citizens are allowed to adopt from orphanages that are still in opeartion. Children are also raised in children's homes where they are sent to school and given opportunities they would not get if they were living on the streets.
