Afghanistan: Khost City

Andrew and I spent the afternoon in Khost today interviewing a local journalist and the governor of the province. It was funny because driving into town people would stop and do a double take when they saw us. It is rare, I guess, to see Western faces not in uniform on the streets of Khost.

We did both interviews outside. We talked to the journalist -- who strings for BBC and Reuters -- in a park in the center of town. Moments after we sat down, Afghan men from all around came over to watch. An interview is an interview, even in Afghanistan, and for the most part looks like a conversation. But, we were treated like circus freaks.
