Hannah Lucinda Smith was interviewed on BBC Business Daily on November 25, 2019, about the burgeoning crypotcurrency industry in former Soviet territories. Lucinda Smith spoke about how the cryptocurrency boom in Russia and tightening of U.S. sanctions are not merely coincidental. "It's absolutely no coincidence that this is happening now," says Lucinda Smith.

As U.S. sanctions designed to punish or encourage economic behavior change become stricter on countries such as Iran, Venezuela, Turkey and Cuba, "the more these countries are gonna start searching for ways to get around those sanctions," says Lucinda Smith. "There's no sign that they're changing their behavior as a result of this. All they're doing is looking for ways to avoid it and to get around it."
