Labor Unions Struggle in Colombia

Colombia’s labor unions have long suffered from challenges that have driven their ranks down to only four percent of the nation’s workforce.

Union members had hoped that the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement, signed two years ago, would bring a change. The agreement had been delayed in Washington for several years because of concerns about the lack of protection and rights for unions and workers.

But in Colombia unions, workers and their supporters continue to suffer.
