My Little Brother

Image by Andre Lambertson. Liberia, 2007.

Lisa McFarley waits in the rain, singing softly, for her brother to land at Roberts International Airport in Monrovia. Although the UNHCR's official repatriation program is over, 65 Liberian exiles living in places such as Buduburam — a 45,000 person refugee camp — were given the opportunity to come home. McFarley's brother came home from Ghana after four years to look for work. "I missed him deeply," she said.
