Umar Farooq reports on how Pakistan’s tribal areas, once proud of their fierce independence, are ready to join Pakistan proper, and how young people worked to end a century-old collective punishment law. Umar took excessive risks to travel to the area and talk to activists who have been caught between American drones, terrorists, and Pakistan’s military. He also discusses the consequences that the inclusion of the tribal areas in Pakistan will have on the war in Afghanistan.
