Dimiter Kenarov and Nadia Shira Cohen's Pulitzer Center project "Toxic Europe" is highlighted on the Nieman Reports home page.
The reporting explores the impact of the metal-laden toxic sludge that swept through a town in western Hungary last October. They also look at a plan to open Europe's largest open-pit gold mine in Romania--illuminating the "darker side" of Europe's environmental policies. In the Spring 2011 issue of Nieman Reports, Tamás Bodoky and Stefan Candea explore similar situations throughout Eastern Europe.
