Pulitzer Center grantee Kristen Gelineau won the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Award for Excellence in Reporting on Women's Issues.
Her story for the project, "Rohingya Under Attack," recounts how 29 Rohingya Muslim women and girls were raped by members of Myanmar's armed forces. Gelineau is the Associated Press bureau chief for Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.
Judges described Gelineau's piece as "methodical, terrifying journalism" that "paints a stark and detailed picture of systematic rape, including gang rape, of Rohingya Muslim women and girls in Myanmar."
The Excellence in Reporting on Women's Issues Award honors original coverage of women in Asia with the common thread being an exploration of the lives of women and the challenges they face.
