Georgetown University Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs

Georgetown University is one of the world’s leading academic and research institutions, offering a unique educational experience that prepares the next generation of global citizens to lead and make a difference in the world. Established in 1789, Georgetown is the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit university. Drawing upon the 450-year-old legacy of Jesuit education, Georgetown provides students with a world-class learning experience focused on educating the whole person through exposure to different faiths, cultures, and beliefs.

To systematically engage questions of faith and culture in a globalized world and to better understand the resurgence of religion in global affairs, Georgetown’s Office of the President created the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs in 2006. Through research, teaching, and service, the center explores global challenges of democracy and human rights; economic and social development; international diplomacy; and interreligious understanding. Two premises guide the center’s work: that a deep examination of faith and values is critical to address these challenges, and that the open engagement of religious and cultural traditions with one another can promote peace.
