"The Abominable Crime" Screens in Guyana

"The Abominable Crime" will screen at the SASOD LGBT Film Festival on Tuesday, June 24 in Guyana, the first screening for filmmaker Micah Fink's documentary in that South American nation.

This award-winning documentary on homophobia in Jamaica follows the lives of individuals from Jamaica's gay community who are under the constant threat of harassment and violence. "The Abominable Crime" is a story about a young single mother, Simone Edwards, who survives an anti-gay shooting, and Maurice Tomlinson, a leading activist whose marriage to another man is made public. Both are forced to flee the country. With support from the Pulitzer Center, Fink, the documentary's award-winning director, spent more than four years shooting "The Abominable Crime" in five countries: Jamaica, Canada, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and United States.

The film came out of Fink's original project for the Pulitzer Center, "Glass Closet: Sex, Stigma and HIV/AIDS in Jamaica." View the film's trailer.
