Heat of the Moment: Daniel Grossman on Climate Change

Monday, April 8, 2013 - 07:00pm EDT (GMT -0400)
Thursday, April 11, 2013 - 07:30pm EDT (GMT -0400)

Planet Earth's average temperature has risen about one degree Fahrenheit in the last 50 years. By the end of this century it will be several degrees higher, according to the latest climate research. But climate change is doing more than simply making things a little warmer. Join Pulitzer Center grantee journalist Dan Grossman, whose reporting has taken him from France to Mongolia exploring how climate change is already influencing the lives of people around the world. In 2012, Grossman published his first-ever TED e-book, "Deep Water: As Polar Ice Melts, Scientists Debate How High Our Oceans Will Rise," a short original electronic book produced by TED Conferences that explores the fascinating science—and scientists—of sea-level rise.

Grossman will visit Guilford College, High Point University and Wake Forest University during a week of classroom conversations and evening discussions with the Pulitzer Center's Triad Campus Consortium partners. At one of the evening discussions - at High Point University on Monday, April 8 - 2012 Pulitzer Center Student Fellow Andrew Faust will present his own work briefly and then call on Grossman to discuss his work, followed by a Q&A session. Grossman will bring his work to the Guilford College community for another evening discussion on Thursday, April 11. Both evening events are free and open to the public.

In addition, Grossman will visit classes and participate in informal conversations over the course of the five-day, three-campus tour. The class subjects range from copy editing to biology to interactive digital media to geology. Grossman will also meet with student journalists at Wake Forest's campus newspaper.
