How are refugees surviving days, weeks and years away from their homelands? What happens when they cannot find work legally? Pulitzer Center grantee Alice Su presents what she learned from conversations with refugees in the Middle East during her two-day visit to Campus Consortium partner Elon University. Her main talk on campus is set for Thursday, March 12.
Jordan and Lebanon are overwhelmed with millions of refugees, conflict across every border, and need for water, electricity and jobs. Often months of exile become years and new asylum seekers arrive with differing abilities to gain asylum status. In her Pulitzer Center-reporting project,"Interim Lives: Refugee Survival in Jordan and Lebanon," Su examines how refugee businessmen, lawyers, mothers, students and artists forge a way forward.
Su is a journalist based in Amman, Jordan. Her work focuses on refugees, religion, China and the Middle East, and has been published in The Guardian, The Atlantic, Wired and Al Jazeera, among other outlets. She grew up in Shanghai, China and is a graduate of Princeton University.
Elon University's School of Communications and the Pulitzer Center are co-sponsoring the event as part of their Campus Consortium partnership.
