On the heels of this year's World Health Summit, Pulitzer Center grantees Amy Maxmen, Carl Gierstorfer, Samuel Loewenberg will join fellow Berlin-based grantee Martina Merten in school visits throughout Berlin to present their health systems reporting.
From Wednesday, October 14 to Friday, October 16, the journalists will visit Charité University, one of the largest university hospitals in Europe, and Hertie Graduate School of Governance among other universities. They also will visit Paul-Natorp High School, and Berlin Cosmopolitan School, a non-profit international primary and secondary school.
Maxmen's most recent Pulitzer Center project investigates disaster science during the Ebola outbreak, while Gierstorfer's latest documentary on Liberia's fight against Ebola, We Want You to Live, draws on the stories of communities torn apart and hoping to rebuild.
Merten explores her Pulitzer Center-supported reporting on the cause and effects of the increase of non-communicable diseases in India. Loewenberg's reporting has spanned migration and refugee health, especially how refugees are maintaining healthcare.
Maxmen spoke on a World Health Summit plenary about the role of the global media in disease outbreaks. Gierstorfer previewed his film at a Summit satellite event during the week. Loewenberg participated in a Summit workshop on migration and refugee health.
