Ottawa Premiere of "Seeds of Hope" Puts Focus on Rape as a Weapon of War

Award-winning filmmaker Fiona Lloyd-Davies is on hand Wednesday, May 28, for the Ottawa premiere of her documentary "Seeds of Hope." Following the screening, Lloyd-Davies participates in a panel discussion with Canadian Senator Mobina Jaffer, and Nobel Women’s Initiative Executive Director Liz Bernstein, moderated by CBC’s Lucy van Oldenbarneveld.

In this documentary, Lloyd-Davies explores how one woman in war-torn eastern Congo shines a beacon of hope for survivors of rape. Masika Katsuva, herself a survivor of rape, has built a center providing medical, practical and psychological support that has helped over 6,000 women and children. Together, they cultivate crops of maize and beans—and share their experiences, to heal and rebuild their lives, and to plant their seeds of hope. "Seeds of Hope" came out of Lloyd-Davies' Pulitzer Center-supported project, "Congo: Consequences of a Conflict with No End."

The evening is presented by the British High Commission in Ottawa and the International Campaign to Stop Rape & Gender Violence in Conflict ahead of the UK’s Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict in June 2014.
