'Searching for Sacred Mountain' Screening at University of Pittsburgh

Filmmaker Gary Marcuse visits the University of Pittsburgh on Monday, March 23, during his U.S. tour to discuss the reporting behind the documentary he co-directed with Shi Lihong, Searching for Sacred Mountain.

Searching for Sacred Mountain tells the story of Liu Jianqiang, an investigative environmental journalist and Beijing editor of ChinaDialogue who has converted to Buddhism. Marcuse explores how an unlikely partnership between religion and government may hold the answer to China's growing environmental crisis.

Marcuse has directed several films about the emergence of environmental movements around the world, including the award-winning documentary, Waking the Green Tiger.

The University of Pittsburgh screening of Searching for Sacred Mountain and subsequent discussion is sponsored by the Department of Religious Studies in conjunction with the University Honors College, Asian Studies Center, China Council, and Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures.
