Join Pulitzer Center-supported journalist and 2016 Knight-Risser Prize Winner, Ian James, at Stanford University on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, as he talks about his award-winning project, "Pumped Dry: The Global Crisis of Vanishing Groundwater."
His remarks are part of the 2017 Knight-Risser Prize Symposium, "When the Well Runs Dry: Facing a Groundwater Crisis in the West." He will be joined by three panelists: Dawn E. Garcia, Director, JSK Journalism Fellowships, Felicity Barringer, Writer in Residence, Bill Lane Center for the American West, and Leon Szeptycki, Executive Director of Water in the West Project.
In the "Pumped Dry" project, James of The Desert Sun reported with Steve Elfers of USA Today on places across the globe that are running out of groundwater. Much of the planet relies on groundwater and in some places so much water is being pumped from the ground that wells are going dry.
