Afghanistan: Lost in Translation

Craft and I spent all morning in the city again today. We spent most of the time interviewing the faculty at Khost University. We sat in a big circle in the chancellor's office. I sat across from the chancellor and the director of the English department sat next to me and translated. The interpreter we brought sat on the other side of the room.

The interview went on and on for about an hour and a half. I asked several questions and tried to get them to talk about the student body and the state of affairs in Khowst Province, but no dice. All of their answers were about the education process or a request for help. They need better teachers, equipment and facilities. I needed better answers to my questions...
