Nepal: Reporting Overview

In this audio slide-show, reporter Habiba Nosheen provides an overview of the stories she recently covered from Nepal. Her reporting delved into how the country’s once-booming tourism industry has been badly damaged by a decade-long Maoist insurgency. One way the country now tries to boost tourism is by marketing itself as a destination for gay and lesbian tourists. Nosheen also discusses her reporting on the trafficking of Nepalese women to India where they are sold into sex slavery. Some of the girls she met who had been trafficked were as young as 12. While in Nepal, Nosheen also met one group of former sex trafficking victims who say they want to take matters in their own hands to stop sex slavery. They now help rescue girls and train them in skills like sewing so they can be self-sufficient and stay out of the brothels for good.
