Uganda: De-Normalizing Sexual Violence

Sex and sexuality are considered taboo in Ugandan society, and sexual violence has become ingrained into culture. Women who have faced sexual violence are rarely believed, and if they decide to fight for justice, they face a long, socially isolating process that often does not end in charges being pressed. Finally, just as the #MeToo movement took over the United States, a powerful movement is underway to start the conversation about the issue of sexual violence in Uganda, beginning with grassroots organizations led by committed, passionate women.
