Two Pulitzer Center Projects Receive World Press Photo Award Nominations

The World Press Photo's 8th annual Digital Storytelling Contest nominated 12 productions in four categories, which included two Pulitzer Center sponsored projects: "Finding Home" and "Down from the Mountains." 

"Finding Home" was made in partnership with TIME, featuring work from Lynsey Addario, Aryn Baker, and Francesca Trianni. The project follows several refugee families, specifically focusing on the lives of mothers and newborns as they seek to resettle in Europe. "Finding Home" was nominated in the "Innovative Storytelling" category. 

"Down from the Mountains," directed by journalist and filmmaker Max Duncan and produced by ChinaFile, follows the lives of several children from the Yi ethnic group who are a part of the nine million children currently living without their parents in China. Their parents work in a factory hundreds of miles away, leaving the children to work the farm and attend school on their own. The project looks into the dilemma that the parents struggle with: live with their children in poverty, or leave them to grow up on their own, but offer them a chance at a better life. "Down from the Mountains" was nominated in the "Long Form" category.
