Michelle Goldberg on Banning the Buying of Sex

Michelle Goldberg visited the Netherlands and Sweden to investigate the growing push for bans on the buying but not the selling of sex—sometimes called the Swedish model. Her conclusion is ambiguous: she found that the Swedish model of prostitution law, currently ascendant in Europe and likely to be enacted in Canada, works, but at some cost to some of the women in sex work that it purports to help.
